This is a wonderful and gloriously illustrated picture book featuring a differently-abled girl and the sweet bond she has with her father。 Will she get to dance with him after her efforts of dress buying and practicing with her sisters when a snowstorm is looming? I bought the Kindle edition and the author’s note is in the front, rather than the back, and it has a thorough and succinct explanation of Elsie’s syndrome。

This is a story with a Daddy-daughter dance with a difference。 The daughter has a disability。 She uses a wheelchair, a language board, and is fed through a tube in her tummy。 While I am happy that there are books available so every child can see their reflection in books, I wish those books were written by experienced children’s books authors。

Sweet and Amazing! As a nurse and a human being, I LOVED this book。 Elsie, the little star of the book, must live life differently than her peers as she is in a wheelchair and uses a feeding tube。 (By the way, I found it mildly humorous that the First Reads’ editor’s “review” just called the feeding tube a “plastic device to give her a nutritious drink”! As an RN who regularly gave patients medications and fluid through them, I knew what it was right away!)。 At the start of the book, we know a sp Sweet and Amazing! DANCING WITH DADDY is a feel good, inclusive tale of family love and support, and that special relationship that many fathers and daughters have。 Elsie, who has Wolf-Hirschhorn Syndrome (WHS), can’t wait to go to her school’s father-daughter dance but when a snowstorm sets in, she wonders if the dance will get cancelled。 All children will be able to relate to the worry Elsie feels and get caught up in the suspense that Anitra Rowe Schulte deftly weaves into her narrative。 Based on Schulte’s own DANCING WITH DADDY is a feel good, inclusive tale of family love and support, and that special relationship that many fathers and daughters have。 Elsie, who has Wolf-Hirschhorn Syndrome (WHS), can’t wait to go to her school’s father-daughter dance but when a snowstorm sets in, she wonders if the dance will get cancelled。 All children will be able to relate to the worry Elsie feels and get caught up in the suspense that Anitra Rowe Schulte deftly weaves into her narrative。 Based on Schulte’s own experiences as the parent of a child with WHS, this book focuses on Elsie’s hopes and dreams rather than her differences。 Illustrator Ziyue Chen’s drawings add sparkle and shine to Schulte’s words。 Together they lead Elsie in a dance that will tug at your heartstrings。 。。。more

This is an unforgettable debut。 Anitra Schulte has brought the most heartwarming story of a father and daughter to life and does great work in bringing more disabled characters to the picture book market。 Ziyue Chen’s art is dazzling – it’s the perfect complement to Anitra’s lively text。 I cannot recommend this one enough。

This is a beautiful story。 Elsie is so excited to experience her first father-daughter dance。 She picks out her dress and is so excited, but a snow storm threatens to cancel her fun。 You’ll have to read to find out if she gets to go and twirl until her heart is content, but just know that this story is the sweetest。 It’s heartwarming and incredible! #BookPosse

What a charming and sweet book about a special moment between a father and daughter。 Elsie, just like any other girl, has dreamed of her first Daddy/Daughter dance。 But Elsie isn't just like every other girl—she has Wolf-Hirschhorn Syndrome so eating, talking, and yes, dancing, is different for her。 Elsie has picked out a special dress, practiced dancing in her wheelchair with her two sisters, and is counting down the days for the special night。 A snowstorm is about to hit, and Elsie worries tha What a charming and sweet book about a special moment between a father and daughter。 Elsie, just like any other girl, has dreamed of her first Daddy/Daughter dance。 But Elsie isn't just like every other girl—she has Wolf-Hirschhorn Syndrome so eating, talking, and yes, dancing, is different for her。 Elsie has picked out a special dress, practiced dancing in her wheelchair with her two sisters, and is counting down the days for the special night。 A snowstorm is about to hit, and Elsie worries that her dream won't come true。 。 。 Schulte's text is beautiful and Chen's art is gorgeous! Schulte's debut picture book is a stand out。 It is a book written to normalize children who are differently-abled。 It centers the children who engage in every day activities from a wheelchair。 It doesn't ask the "what happened to you" question and just allows the main character to be the main character and live her life。 What a beautiful story and as close to own voices as you can get。 Beautiful tale of family relationships and the power they have。 Schulte's debut picture book is a stand out。 It is a book written to normalize children who are differently-abled。 It centers the children who engage in every day activities from a wheelchair。 It doesn't ask the "what happened to you" question and just allows the main character to be the main character and live her life。 What a beautiful story and as close to own voices as you can get。 Beautiful tale of family relationships and the power they have。 。。。more
